Andrus and Rangers finalize $14.4M, 3-year deal

Having won the first two AL pennants in franchise history, the Texas Rangers want to keep their key players around for a while. Slick-fielding shortstop Elvis Andrus and the Rangers finalized a $14.4 million, three-year contract Wednesday. The deal covers his three years of salary arbitration eligibility, and Texas would like to discuss an even longer agreement with agent Scott Boras.

Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton visited doctors for Major League Baseball and the players’ association this week in New York following his admitted relapse with alcohol. General manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday night that Hamilton was accompanied by Shayne Kelley, the team’s newly hired major league staff assistant whose job includes being in a support role for Hamilton.

Joe Beimel, Conor Jackson agree with Rangers

Left-handed reliever Joe Beimel and first baseman-outfielder Conor Jackson have agreed to minor league contracts with the Texas Rangers. Beimel went 1-1 with a 5.33 ERA in 35 games with Pittsburgh last year. Jackson hit .244 with five home runs and 43 RBIs in 114 games last season with Oakland and Boston, which acquired him at the trade deadline.
