The Colorado Rockies told outfielder Brad Hawpe on Wednesday that they were releasing him, the Denver Post's Troy Renck reported. Renck reported the team decided to cut Hawpe rather than seek a trade. Hawpe cleared waivers this week, which made him available for a trade. Colorado informed him of his release prior to Wednesday night's game against the Dodgers. He later hit a pinch single in his final Colorado at-bat. “I haven’t been playing too much for various reasons, and I wasn’t going to be back next year,” Hawpe said after the game.
