How confident am I that this is actually the opening day rotation? Well, Padilla, Feldman and Harrison would seem a safe bet and IF Millwood is healthy he is a no brainer. So that leaves us with the often injured and overall fairly unimpressive Brandon McCarthy. Should he falter the Rangers have a few options.

Kason Gabbard and Lulis Mendoza (netiher of whom could hold a spot last year) may get another try. Tommy Hunter also could get a more extended look.  My money is on Dustin Nippert. Nippert got into some games last year with the Rangers and was just ok, but he did show some flashes.

Could Neftali Feliz or Derek Holland actually make the rotation to start the year? It is not likely, but stranger things have happened.

The two teams played 11 innings on Monday night and it just wasnt the Rangers night to pull off a come from behind victory.

Luis Mendoza gave up a rbi single in the 11th inning to Travis Buck and ended up taking the loss for the Rangers. The only other Rangers pitcher to allow any runs was starting pitcher Kevin Millwood who was charged with eight hits and two three runs over seven innings. He didn’t have that bad of game as he struckout six and only walked one. There just wasn’t enough run support for him in the game.

As we mentioned before, Blalock had the game tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings. The other two rbi came off the bats of German Duran and who had a rbi single and Milton Bradley who had a rbi sac fly. The offense needed to step it up just a little bit but they were unable to do that and pick p the pitching staff.

When you hit four home runs, you expect to win but that wasn’t the case as the Rangers lost the game 8-7 and split the short two game series.

Nelson Cruz, Taylor Teagarden, and Hank Blalock all hit two run home runs and finished the game with two rbi each. Chris Davis tacked on a solo home run as well in the game. The offense did their job however it was the pitching staff that allowed eight runs and lost the game.

Kevin Millwood was tagged for 11 hits and five runs in five innings of action. Milwood took the loss and is now 9-9 on the season. It has been a very disappointing season for Millwood that is for sure. Kameron Loe pitched two innings and gave up four hits and one run as well.

The Rangers will get right back at it on Thursday night as they travel to Oakland for a four game series. Rangers Blog

The Rangers offense hit six total home runs and starting pitcher Kevin Millwood tossed a complete game as the Rangers beat the Tigers 9-1. With the win, the Rangers avoided the three game sweep at home.

Brandon Boggs, Michael Young, Josh Hamilton, Michael Bradley and Travis Metcalf all hit solo home runs in the game. Metcal also had a two run shot in the second inning. The only run that the Rangers did not score via the home run ball came in the third inning when Chris Davis had a rbi groundout.

Millwood was the start on the mound as he pitched a complete game for his seventh win of the season. Millwood is now 7-7 on the season.

Wilson both stunk it up on Wednesday afternoon as they blew a lead and the Chicaco White Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 10-8.  Carlos Quentin hit a three run home run off Wilson on the first pitch her threw for the game winning hit for the White Sox.  Guardado was charged with four of the five runs in the bad 8th inning.

Rangers fans shold have known that something bad was going to happen in the game because starting pitcher Kevin Millwood had to leave the came after only 1 2/3 innings because his groing injury came back.  The bullpen pitched badly and the offense just couldn’t come back in the 9th inning to get the Rangers back in it.

Michael Young had two rbi including a solo home run for the Rangers.  Young wasn’t the only player with two rbi however as Jarrod Saltalamacchia also finished with two runs batted in.  Ian Kinsler, Hank Blalock, and David Murphy all had one rbi in the game as well.

Bad loss for the Rangers who will now be off on Thursday before the start a weekend series with the Oakland Athletics.

Besides Young’s rbi in the ninth inning, the Rangers got one rbi each from Chris Davis and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.  Davis and Saltalamacchia both had rbi singles in the second inning off of Joba Chamberlain.

Frank Francisco even his recorded at 2-2 as he picked up the win in relief for the Ranges. C.J. Wilson was able to pick up his 19th save of the season in the ninth inning.  Rangers starting pitcher Kevin Millwood lasted five innings to get the no decision.  Millwood gave up five hits and one while striking out six Yankees.

The Ranges will now go for the three game sweep against the Yankees on Wedneday.  Rangers Blog

Kevin Millwood pitched five innings and gave up 12 hits and seven runs.  Millwood was hit hard the entire game and took the loss and and is now 5-4 on the season,  Josh Rupe, Joaquin Benoit, and Jamey Wright all pitched one inning of relief and did not allow a run to score.

The first Rangers run came in the eighth inning when Ian Kinsler singled to center and David Murphy scored.  In the ninth inning, Marlon Byrd had a rbi triple that scored the Rangers second run of the game.  Those were the only two runs for the Rangers on the night as they had all sorts of problems against Astros starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez.

Eddie Guardado, Frank Francisco, Joaquin Benoit, and Jamey Wright all combined to pitched the final three innings of the game without giving up a run.  Great job by the bullpen as they did exactly what they were asked to do.

Milton Bradley and Michael Young both hit home runs in the game as both players finished with two rbi.  Young also extended his hitting streak to 21 games.  However, Bradley and Young were not the leaders for rbi in the game as Ramon Vazquez finished the game with three.  Chris Shelton also had one rbi in the game.

Kevin Millwood started on the mound for the Rangers and tossed only three innings to take the loss.  Millwood gave up nine hits and seven runs in the game.  Millwood gave up two home runs which really hurt him.

Josh Rupe did very good as he pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Millwood.  Eddie Guardado also got a inning of action and did not allow a run.

Milton Bradley led the Rangers with two RBI while Brandon Boggs had one RBI.  Bradley had a two run double in and Boggs had a RBI groundout.  Like we previously blogged, all the Rangers runs came in the seventh inning.

Kevin Millwood started the game for the Rangers and tossed six innings while giving up two earned runs.  Millwood struggled as he gave up 10 hits.  Wes Littleton then came in to pitch one and two-thirds innings and he gave up two more earned runs.

C.J. Wilson took the loss for the Rangers after giving up two earned runs without even recording an out.  Jamey Wright was finally able to get the last out in the eigth inning for the Rangers after Wilson gave up the go ahead run.

The Rangers had a lot of good hitting early in the game with Ian Kinsler, Gerald Laird, and Milton Bradley all getting RBIs and Kinsler and Bradley each picking up their first home run of the season. 

With only one game against the Boston Red Sox in the series and with the Texas Rangers already behind in the series do you think they can avoid the sweep?
